Dr Lloyd Frank Philpott is a college lecturer and coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health Nursing at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery (SONM), University College Cork. He is a registered nurse, and public health nurse and an honours graduate from the School of Nursing and Midwifery in UCC. He holds postgraduate degrees in Public Health Nursing, Health Protection, and Emergency Nursing. He has a Masters in Public Health and PhD in the area of Paternal Perinatal Mental Health. His current and past research projects are focused on the perinatal health of men, their infants and partners with particular interest in perinatal mental health. He is a reviewer for and publishes in a number of peer-reviewed international journals. He is module leader and teaches on a number of Postgraduate nursing programmes on research; health promotion; public health nursing and primary healthcare. He supervises students’ research projects at undergraduate, postgraduate, masters and PhD levels. He is also a member of a number of committees at the school. He is the HEI representative on the National Public Health Nursing Quality Improvement Governance Group and on the HSE’s Public Health Nursing recruitment and sponsorship Working Group.    

Dr Philpott has research and scholarly publications in leading internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. His publications and research projects reflect his interdisciplinary collaboration in implementation science and evidence translation. His research has been disseminated at national and international conferences including the International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing conference, the International Global Network of Public Health Nursing Conference, the Trinity Health and Education International Research Conference, the RCSI Nursing & Midwifery Conference and the Nursing and Midwifery Conference at UCC.

Dr Philpott's primary area of research is paternal perinatal mental health (PPMH). He is recognised globally as an expert on the topic due to his research output. His contribution to the field of PPMH and the impact of his research for the advancement of knowledge, policy and clinical practice has been acknowledged by clinicians, academics and policymakers. His research output also includes Public Health Nursing, education and infant and maternal health. 

Dr Philpott has collaborated on research projects with National and International experts and educators in Public Health Nursing, Midwifery and Paternal Perinatal Health. He recently acted as the guest editor for the International Journal of Men’s Social and Community Health (IJMSCH).

Dr Philpott currently contributes to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the School of Nursing. He has taught on over 16 modules from first year clinical skills (NU1032), as part of the BSc General Nursing programme, to student supervision at MSc and PhD level. For the past 6 years he has coordinated the PG Dip in Public Health Nursing.
He is the module leader for several modules including NU6043- Adults and older people in the Community and NU6044- Health and Health Promotion: Concepts and Principles. He teaches on other PG modules including NU6041- Public Health Nursing: Principles and Professional Issues, NU6005- Evidence Based Practice for Healthcare Professionals and MH6014 - Advanced Research Methods for Healthcare Professionals. He has collaborated with colleagues at the SONM to develop modules such as NU4113: Primary Healthcare for Population Health and NU6017: Nursing Research for Specialist Practice.
