In 2010, I was awarded my PhD by University College Cork entitled `Protecting `the family cell¿? Child Welfare, the NSPCC and the State in Ireland, 1880-1944.¿ I am currently finishing a revised version of the thesis for publication with Manchester university Press.
My research interests include nineteenth and twentieth-century Irish and British history, institutional histories, welfare history, social history, the history of medicine, the history of childhood and the family in Ireland.
BIOGRAPHY
I am currently working as a lecturer in the School of History, University College Cork. My teaching centres on children/childhood and the family in modern Irish and British history.In 2010, I was awarded my PhD by University College Cork entitled `Protecting `the family cell¿? My research interests include nineteenth and twentieth-century Irish and British history, institutional histories, welfare history, social history, the history of medicine, the history of childhood and the family in Ireland.
Research Interests
Nineteenth and twentieth-century Irish social, political, and social policy history; women and gender; institutional histories; welfare history and the history of childhood and the family in Ireland. I am currently conducting research on the industrial school system in twentieth-century Ireland through interviews with past residents. For my future research, I hope to place my work on child welfare in Ireland in an international context.
