Maria Lotty

Biography

Dr Maria Lotty is a Senior Coordinator (Health and Social Care) and Lecturer at the Centre for Adult Continuing Education, University College Cork.

Maria has over 20 years of social work experience that reflects a comprehensive experience of working with children and families in assessment, therapeutic and project management roles with specialism in the development, delivery and evaluation of psychoeducational groupwork interventions. Through her doctoral study, Maria successfully led a unique research collaboration between UCC and Tusla, Child and Family Agency, designing, developing and evaluating the internationally recognized Trauma-informed Foster Care Programme: Fostering Connections. This programme has made a significant contribution to the development of trauma-informed care in the fostering services in Ireland. She has developed and delivered bespoke trauma-informed care therapeutic interventions to children and their families who have experienced developmental trauma.

She is the Coordinator for the CPD Certificate in Trauma-informed Care: Theory and Practice: https://www.ucc.ie/en/ace-ccpdtc/  Maria created and delivers this programme which is the first University accredited programme in Trauma-informed Care in Ireland that aims to support practitioners who work directly with children, young people, adults, and families who have experienced trauma through a coherent framework entitled 'The Practice of Trauma-informed Care' (Lotty, 2021).

Maria also coordinates the Diploma for Social and Psychological Health Studies and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Awareness for Professionals Microcredential module.

She is interested in therapeutic interventions for children and families, programme development and programme evaluation with a focus on continuous professional development for practitioners across the health, social care and education sectors.
