Annette Matthys

Biography

Annette has been supporting research in UCC for over 25 years, after moving to Cork from Belgium, where she studied Economics at KU Leuven (1990) and started her career in research as Financial Assistant at Imec, R&D hub for nano- and digital technologies in Leuven. Annette joined the Tyndall National institute in Cork in 1993 as Accounts Assistant. After supporting the UCC Clinical Trials Centre in the early 2000’s, Annette took up the position of Accounts Manager with the Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (CMRC) also in UCC in 2006 and was the Finance Manager for the Interreg IVB IMCORE project (2008-2011) in which she successfully coordinated a €6.2m budget and reporting from 17 project partners. In 2012, Annette took up the enhanced role of Financial Administrator for Beaufort, which saw the integration of the CMRC, the Hydraulics & Maritime Research Centre (HMRC) & the Sustainable Energy Research Group. This integration was further consolidated with the establishment of the MAREI Centre, in 2015 which is headquartered in the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) in UCC. Annette was promoted to Financial Manager in 2020 and has been instrumental in securing the significant EU Research Funding that has underpinned the expansion of MaREI and this success has lead to Annette taking on the role of EU Funding Coordinator as of June 2022. Annette is a member of the Institute of Accounting Technicians of Ireland (MIATI)
