Biography
An experienced Marine Geographer and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, Sarah joined the Coastal and Marine Governance group of Beaufort Research (formerly the Coastal and Marine Research Centre) in 2010 working as a research scientist. Since then she has worked on various EU-funded coastal and marine policy-related projects including TPEA (DG MARE), Celtic Seas Partnership (LIFE+), PISCES (LIFE+), COEXIST (FP7), OSS 2015 (FP7), and SUSTAIN (INTERREG IVB). Sarah also contributes to the maintenance and has written educational pages for the Marine Irish Digital Atlas (MIDA), an online directory of marine and coastal zone resources. As a member of the All- island Irish Maritime Spatial Planning Network she is actively involved in publishing academic papers. Prior to this position, Sarah worked with the International Cooperation Unit of the Irish Marine Institute, operating an EU Desk and Information Service, publishing directories and providing advice and training to researchers to maximise Irish participation in competitive EU funded marine programmes. Sarah holds a BSc. in Geography and Sports Science from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom, a Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Psychology and an MA in Geography (Integrated Coastal Zone Management and GIS) from University College Cork. Her research focuses on the law, policy and environmental aspects of marine renewables, ecosystem-based management and broader maritime governance issues such as Integrated Maritime Policy including Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and Integrated Coastal Management (ICM).
