Biography:

                       

Vicki has 13 years of experience working in applied science research, holding a Degree in Natural Sciences from Trinity College Dublin, a Masters (MPhil) in Environmental Research from Dublin Institute of Technology and a Higher Diploma in Applied Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Before joining the CMRC she worked for the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Institute of Technology, Coillte and the National Conservation Education Centre in Ireland. She also worked at NASA's Earth Systems Modelling and Data Management Laboratory at Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA and for the Corporacion Nacional Forestal in Chile.

Since joining the CMRC, Vicki has worked on a wide range of national and international research and industry projects utilising GIS and data management technologies for many state, semi-state and private companies including Government Departments, Ordnance Survey Ireland, Port and Oil Companies, Environmental Protection Agency, Marine Institute, Heritage Council and Local Authorities. Vicki has also worked with business development companies and councils to develop tourism and recreation strategies, including assessing a range of tourism services from urban and coastal cycle routes and marinas to serviced marine access points and heritage walking trails.

As well as working in the specialist area of data management, Vicki is involved in the development, coordination and management of short professional courses in GIS which have attracted both national and international audiences. Vicki also teaches data management techniques on a number of Masters Programmes in UCC and is the CMRC website administrator.

Vicki has completed a number of certified courses including GMDSS/VHF radio operations, Offshore Yacht Master, Sea Survival Techniques - Certificate in Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (STCW 95Regulation VI/I and STCW Code section A-VI/I, paragraph 2.1.1). She is also an Occupational First Aider and PADI Open Water Diver. She represents CMRC on a number of committees including the Irish Coastal Forum and IRLOGI’s International Business Club.

Vicki joined the Department of Foreign Affairs/Irish Aid’s Rapid Response Corps as an Information Management Officer in 2010, where she works in the area of data collection, management and information dissemination for disaster response and recovery worldwide. She has been deployed to the Philippines with UNOCHA in 2010 and the Horn of Africa with UNICEF in 2011.
