Aoife has a growing research interest in the field of vaccines uptake, addressing vaccine hesitancy and the potential for vaccines as an antimicrobial stewardship strategy. She is collaborating on research evaluating the role of the health care professional in vaccines promotion and is developing a CPD programme for pharmacists in this area. Pharmacists are an integral, front line provider of healthcare and support to patients and other health care professionals in primary and secondary care. In order to evaluate the potential for developing pharmacists roles, Aoife is involved in several qualitative research projects investigating the uptake of pharmacists interventions in the hospital setting, provision of vaccines information and antimicrobial stewardship. Ongoing research is evaluating the impact of procalcitonin as a biomarker for infection and it's impact on antimicrobial prescribing in the hospital setting. The impact of the COVID-19 on community pharmacists' experiences wellbeing is an area of current research that Aoife is conducting in collaboration with colleagues at the School of Pharmacy UCC.

Biography
Dr Aoife Fleming is a Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy and holds a joint appointment with the Mercy University Hospital as a research pharmacist since 2016. She graduated with a degree in Pharmacy from Trinity College Dublin in 2004 and completed a Masters in Hospital Pharmacy in 2007 while working at Beaumont Hospital. She has extensive experience working the hospital and community pharmacy settings. Dr Fleming commenced a Health Research Board PhD Scholarship in 2011 at the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork. Her PhD investigated antimicrobial stewardship in Ireland with a focus on long-term care facilities. Aoife has published and collaborated in the area of antimicrobial stewardship and continues to conduct research in this area. In her current role, Aoife is the liaison Pharmacist between the School of Pharmacy UCC and the Pharmacy Department at the Mercy University Hospital whereby she provides research support to Pharmacists in hospital practice in the areas of antimicrobial stewardship and medication safety.Aoife has a growing research interest in the field of vaccines uptake, addressing vaccine hesitancy and the potential for vaccines as an antimicrobial stewardship strategy. Research Interests
My research interests are in the areas of antimicrobial stewardship; with a focus on the behavioral determinants influencing antimicrobial prescribing, and the impact of point-of-care test systems (e.g. CRP and procalcitonin). I am involved in Interprofessional Learning for Pharmacy students and I am conducting ongoing research in this area to enhance their experience of IPL. Other research interests include medication reconciliation, medication safety, penicillin allergy and its impact on antimicrobial stewardship and medicines optimisation in long term care facilities.Research Grants
