Mitochondrial function, cell metabolism and bioenergetics in normoxia and hypoxia, calcium signalling, cancer cell metabolism, effects of oncometabolites of mitochondrial function and epigenetics. Ischemia, HIF signalling, HIF-independent responses to hypoxia and metabolic stress (APMK, translation remodelling). Development of phosphorescence-based techniques for O2 imaging in cells, spheroids and living tissues; monitoring and modelling of cell oxygenation and O2 gradients in (patho)-physiological conditions. Confocal and 2-photon fluorescent microscopy, live cell / tissue imaging.
