Aine is chair of ENGAGE an Interdisciplinary Clinical Mental Health Research Network. The network aims to promote, generate and disseminate high quality collaborative research to enhance the mental health and wellbeing of people across the lifespan. It is a collaborative venture between the Health Service in Ireland, voluntary sector and UCC that brings together clinicians, service users, carers and researchers from across the Southern region.
Biography
Aine is a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health at the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She holds a Bachelors degree from Trinity College Dublin and a MSc and PhD from University College Cork. Prior to beginning work in academia in 2004 she worked in both the private and public health sectors as a mental health nurse. Aine is Director of Teaching and Learning, Chair of the School's Athena SWAN committee and the Student Mental Health Resource Officer within the School. Aine's research interests focus on young people's mental health. With a specific interest in positive mental health, depression, peer support and e-health. She is also interested in participatory models of research and working in partnership with mental health service users to co-produce research. Aine is currently the chair of ENGAGE an Interdisciplinary Clinical Mental Health Research Network at UCC. She sits on the International Scientific Committee for the European Conference on Mental Health and on the editorial board of Issues in Mental Health Nursing. Aine supervises a number of research students undertaking MSc, DN (clinical doctorate) and PhD degrees.Research Interests
Aine leads the Mental Health and Well-being research cluster in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Her research interests focus on young people's mental health, with a specific interest in positive mental health and PPI. She has experience of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as the conduct of systematic reviews. Recent research has focused on the co-production of mental health education for nursing students. This European funded project involved working in partnership with mental health service users (Experts by Experience) throughout the research process (grant application - data collection - data analysis - intervention design). She has recently finished a study of self-harm and suicide awareness amongst staff in the health services, commissioned by the Health Service Executive. She is also leading research for the Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Development Unit to evaluate a pilot study of peer group clinical supervision for nurses and midwives.Aine is chair of ENGAGE an Interdisciplinary Clinical Mental Health Research Network.
