Klaas has led a team of several PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, funded by a number of grants from Science Foundation Ireland and industry. He is currently a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Principal Investigator on a project that aims to help industry to work with new forms of software development, in particular open source, inner source, and crowdsourcing. Other projects focus on improving our understanding of companies' engagement with open source software projects, and the tailoring of agile methods for critical domains.
Previously Klaas was a Research Fellow with Lero - the Irish Software Research Centre, where he remains active as a Funded Investigator. He received a PhD from the University of Limerick, a MSc from the University of Groningen, and a B.ICT from the Hanzehogeschool Groningen. He has taught modules on a range of topics, including software engineering processes and paradigms and programming modules.
Biography
Dr Klaas-Jan Stol is a Senior Lecturer with the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at University College Cork, Ireland. He has a wide range of research interests that fall within the three domains of research studies. In terms of the substantive domain, his research focuses on contemporary software development methods and practice. Within the methodological domain, Klaas aims to improve the state of research methodology within software engineering. Within the theoretical domain, he aims to draw on other disciplines to improve the state of theory building within software engineering.Klaas has led a team of several PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, funded by a number of grants from Science Foundation Ireland and industry.
