Research strategy and impact

The main emphasis of my academic research to date has been carried out in relation to education, the voluntary sector and pertaining to social policy developments in the areas of  Youth Work; cultural identity, community work, community relations and community education in Ireland, North and South.

I was closely involved with the major social survey carried out by the Opsahl Commission, requiring exhaustive fieldwork and involving a variety of methodologies, personal and group interviews, etc, throughout Northern Ireland and beyond. Additionally, as part of the initiative, I designed and published a comprehensive curriculum resources pack for schools, which was aimed at facilitating political discussion between religiously segregated schools.

It is my belief that the diverse nature of my research experience and publications to date; - namely, my scholarship and European research achievements (and the specialised nature of my publications in education; community relations; conflict resolution; cultural identity issues; lifelong learning; social inequality, and community development), have all made a considerable contribution to scholarly debate nationally and internationally.
