Simon Smith

Biography

In 1982 Simon Smith began his clinical career began as clinical assistant to Prof RH Beech, Prof of Clinical Psychology at the University Hospital of South Manchester. In 1985 he graduated as a clinical psychologist from the University of Manchester. He has worked with adult patients and their families in a variety of settings including primary care, inpatient, medical and surgical units and mental health patients. He was a member of the commissioning team for a mental health unit. A Senior Clinician and a member of the management team for an innovative mental health home treatment service gaining national recognition.
He moved to Southern England becoming Consultant Forensic Clinical Psychologist and member of the Strategic Management Board for Public Protection. He has worked with patients, teams, wards and departments to advise on risk management, personal development and organisational change. He is currently undertaking PhD research into Medical Communication supervised by Prof Colin Bradley, Department of General Practice, UCC. His current research interests metric based healthcare training and healthcare simulation training  

Research Interests

I am currently registered at UCC for a PhD in medicine.

I am developing a research interest in the communication factors associated with medical error, and treatment concordance.
