Biography
Therese Kenna joined UCC in September 2010 from Sydney, Australia. Therese is an urban geographer and has projects and specialism on: the management, governance and privatisation of urban public space; smart cities, especially the use of ICT and new technologies in the design and development of public spaces for greater engagement and to improve health/well-being; and social exclusion in cities. Her research programme spans Australian and European cities.
Research Interests
Dr Kenna primarily works in the field of urban social geography and has projects and specialism on: the management, governance and privatisation of urban public space; smart cities, especially the use of ICT and new technologies in the design and development of public spaces for greater engagement and to improve health/well-being; and social exclusion in cities. CyberParks: Fostering knowledge about the relationship between Information and Communication Technologies and Public Spaces supported by strategies to improve their use and attractiveness.
Gating the city: Local urban sustainability and community planning and politics in Ireland (with Denis Linehan, Will Brady and Jonathan Hall).
Private Neighbourhoods: An examination of the legal structures governing the development, management and lived experience of residents in master planned residential estates in both Australia (with Deborah Stevenson, Robin Goodman and Kathy Douglas) and Ireland.
