GeneralContext Panel with angel.
Location church at Breedon.
GeneralDescription Panel with angel, dated to about 800 A.D.
GeneralDescription This sculpture is different to the others at Breedon. The frame has a round arch which is set on rounded cupped capitals. These are supported on flat pilaster-like features and stepped bases. The angel steps firmly outside the architectural frame. His right hand is raised in blessing and he has a trilobed rod in his left. There are two stiff plants with scooped leaves and ball flowers at his feet. His hair is curled and bound in a filet. The drapery folds on the figure are bold and tubular with complex crumpled hemlines.
