GeneralContext Cross Shaft and remains of Cross Head.
Location Church at Stonegrave.
GeneralContext Stone type: Fine-grained, calcareous, very pale brown sandstone, with occasional shell debris.
Dimensions 174cm (68.5'') high, 30cm to 28.5cm (11.8'' to 11.25'') wide, and 22.5cm to 17.3cm (8.9'' to 6.8'') thick.
GeneralDescription Cross Shaft and part of Cross Head, dated to the tenth century.
GeneralDescription The upper arm of the cross head is missing.
GeneralDescription The cross shaft consists of a single panel, which is carved with continuous plain plait. At the top it flanks a human figure. The arm on the left is broken away. He holds a small rectangle in the other hand. He is possibly an ecclesiastic.
GeneralDescription Below this figure the interlace surrounds a long-stemmed cross.
GeneralDescription At the base there is a figure, standing akimbo, frontally facing. There is a rectangle on the chest suspended by strands from the neck.
