Professional Accredited Programmes and Work Placement Working Group (Event)

Activity: MembershipMembership of network

Description

Practice placements are a central component of a significant number of modules and programmes within the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS).

Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offering professional accredited qualifications and professional work placements are an important part of the academic course portfolio in CACSSS. The delivery of professional accredited programmes involves curriculum commitments and staff workloads that are different to non-accredited/non-professional academic programmes, for instance, in relation to Fitness to Practice, protection of the public interest, and students’ attainment of core professional competencies.

The “Professional Accredited Programmes and Work Placement Working Group”, under the auspices of the CACSSS Teaching and Learning committee, will support accredited programmes which provide professional placements. The goals of the working group are to:

1. Share best practices and problem-solve matters arising associated with the provision and support of professional placements for students on accredited programmes;

2. Explore options and opportunities to engage with practice partners in agencies and settings where professional placements occur;

3. Provide a forum for programmes to document challenges and opportunities associated with the provision and resourcing of professional accredited programmes and work placements so as to inform the work of other College committees, CEMC, and to aid the College in its reporting to the Academic Secretary on ‘accreditation matters’;

4. Network and share best practice between programmes and Schools/Departments on the establishment and delivery of professional and accredited programmes;

5. Share best practice between programmes and Schools/Departments on the work associated with obtaining and sustaining external accreditation status for CACSSS programmes from statutory bodies such as CORU, Teaching Council, etc.;

6. Work and collaborate with similar committees in other Colleges across the university.
