Education: a transformational journey?

  • Aine Hyland (Speaker)

Activity: Talk or presentationOral presentation

Description

My talk this evening is entitled “Education: a transformational journey?”. It will be a whistle-stop tour of the history of education since earliest times, and I will try to identify periods when education might be deemed to have been transformational – either for individuals, or for society or civilisation as a whole – and periods when education was used to prevent or to resist transformation. I will then focus on present day schooling, especially in Ireland. Finally, I will briefly explore the challenges currently faced by humankind and ask whether education systems worldwide can play a part in overcoming these challenges and act as an agent for transformational change across the world.
