Description
“Comment apprendre à un ordinateur à parler de la famille (How to teach a computer to talk about the family)”.
I animated a Native Scientist workshop session in French for francophone children (ages 5-12) living in Cork.
My activity, titled "How to teach a computer to talk about the family", aimed at introducing them to knowledge representation, applied ontology and automatic reasoning in a fun way. For these 3x15 minute sessions, I created some slides with a playful exercise to get the children to recognise ontology elements (categories, relations & instances) in small family-related scenarios. I then showed them how these can be represented in a tree-like (ontological) structure. Finally, through questions and answers, we discovered how a computer would use this representation to perform logical reasoning to talk about the family.
