Research informing school-based mental health policy in Ireland.

Impact: Health Impact, Political Impact, Educational Impact

Narrative

As part of the European SEYLE trial, I supervised economic evaluation research (Ahern et al.) examining the cost-effectiveness of school-based mental health interventions. Findings demonstrating that Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) was the most cost-effective intervention were subsequently included in the National Suicide Research Foundation report Young Lives in Ireland: A School-Based Study of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (2017). The report highlighted the need for evidence-based school mental health programmes in Ireland and contributed to national discussion on youth mental health and suicide prevention policy.
