Biography

I am a senior lecturer with the school of Computer Science and Information Technology, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. I have more than two decades of research experience in different topics in networking and distributed computing systems, including AI-driven solutions, software-defined networking, multimedia streaming, mobility and resource management, energy-efficient networking, and modelling and performance evaluation. My research received several awards, including the DASH-IF best paper in MMSys 2017, the best demo award in LANMAN 2016, the best paper award in the IFIP Networking 2005 conference, spotlight paper for IEEE TMC June 2010, and the UCC commercialisation award 2010. Additionally, it was funded by different organisations, such as Huawei, Meta, Commscope, Research Ireland, Qatar Foundation, and NTRA Egypt.

I obtained my Ph.D. at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the University of Toronto, in 2007. I also received my BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Electronics and Electrical Communication Department at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University, in 2000 and 2003, respectively. I previously worked in different institutions, including Cairo University, Nile University (Egypt), and University College Cork, Ireland.
