Dr Aisling Jennings is a clinical academic with over 10 years experience of combining her clinical role as a GP with academic work. Her research interests are in palliative care, dementia care and prescribing in the older adult. She has methodological skills in qualitative research, systematic reviews and mixed methods methodologies.

Aisling completed her Medical Degree in University College Cork in 2009 with First Class Honours (class rank: first place). She subsequently completed her Specialist Training in General Practice in 2015. Aisling completed her PhD in 2019. The research she conducted for her PhD garnered several national and international research awards including the 2018 Early Career Academic Award from the Society of Academic Primary Care, UK (SAPC).

Aisling has numerous international, national and institutional research leadership and mentorship roles. These roles include Associate Editorship of BMC Journal for Primary Care and membership of the Irish College of GPs (ICGP) Quality and Safety Committee. She has an established network of collaborators nationally and internationally with whom she collaborates regularly.

She has significant experience providing research supervision and mentorship. She is currently supervising four doctoral candidates. She welcomes enquiries regarding potential supervision at PhD, MD, or MSc level.

Aisling has a track record of publishing impactful research that is grounded in clinical practice. She is passionate about translating research into clinical practice for the benefit of patient care. 

Aisling's research explores (de)prescribing in older adults, dementia care and managing life-limiting conditions within primary care. In her clincial practice, in addition to this interest in the care of older adults, Aisling has a clinical interest in women's health. This clinical interest in women's health has lead to a research interest in this area. 

Aisling has methodological expertise in qualitative research and systematic reviews and experience in observational studies. She has a strong track record of publishing clinically relevant research in impactful peer reviewed journals.

Aisling's long term research goal is to lead research that improves patient care in general practice and informs national policy and practice. Her research to date on dementia care has shaped national clinical guidelines, prescribing safety initiatives, and continuing professional development GP education in partnership with the Irish College of GPs—directly enhancing clinical decision making and patient care. Through national and international leadership roles in research networks, ethics committees, and guideline groups, she aims to drive evidence-based policy and foster collaboration. Aisling enjoys providing mentorship to future academic GPs, building capacity for sustainable impact. 

Aisling currently supervises four doctoral students at different stages of their PhD journey from idea generation to thesis submission. Two doctoral students are conducting research in the area of Women's health, one doctoral student conducting research in Primary Palliative Care and and one doctoral student conducting research in Medication Regulation.

Aisling is the module co-ordinator for the GP Module for 3rd Year Direct Entry Medical students (CP3105) and the 2nd year Graduate Entry Medical GP Module (GM2105). Aisling also contributes to teaching & assessment for Final Med (CP5002) and 2nd year Direct Entry medical teaching (HC2002).
