Personal profile

Biography

I am a clinical academic with over 10 years experience of combining my clinical role as a GP with academic work. My research interests are in palliative care, dementia care and prescribing in the older adult. I have methodological skills in qualitative research, systematic reviews and mixed methods methodologies.

I completed my Medical Degree in University College Cork in 2009 with First Class Honours (class rank: first place). I subsequently completed my Postgraduate Specialist Training in General Practice in 2015. I completed my PhD on The Management of Non-Cognitive Symptoms of Dementia in 2019. The research I conducted for my PhD garnered several national and international research awards including the 2018 Early Career Academic Award from the Society of Academic Primary Care (SAPC).

I have numerous international, national and institutional research leadership and mentorship roles. These roles include Associate Editorship of BMC Journal for Primary Care and membership of the Irish College of GPs (ICGP) Quality and Safety Committee. I have significant experience providing research supervision and mentorship. I am currently co-supervising four PhD scholars.

I have a track record of publishing impactful research that is grounded in clinical practice. I am passionate about translating research into clinical practice for the benefit of patient care, as evidenced by my co-authorship of a National Clinical Guideline and two GP Clinical Guidance updates for the Irish College of GPs (ICGP). I have an established network of collaborators nationally and internationally with whom I collaborate regularly.
