Biography

Alexandra is Research Fellow in MaREI, in University College Cork and the Vice-Chair of the COST Action SHiFT. She has a PhD (University of Galway, 2014) in geography and her research work has concentrated in diverse areas including the societal and policy aspects of climate action, grassroots disaster and flood management and community-led energy transitions. Her current research work focuses on climate justice in urban environment with JustCities Hub (EPA 2024-2028) with a focus in Cork and Belfast, and grassroots climate action and promoting the role of Social Sciences and energy, it her work also include transdisciplinary work with the ENPOWER Project to support energy communities and collaboratively develop data-driven services in this context (Horizon 20232026). Alexandra is also a member of the International Energy Agency Users-TCP Programme on ‘EnPowering All” Task Force (IEA-Users-TCP).

Research Interests

Public Engagement with Energy Transitions in an era of Climate Crisis (2021-2025) led by MaREI (as Research Fellow) CREATIVE C-CHANGE, (2021-2023) Creative Climate Action Evaluation project led by MaREI Centre (as Research Fellow) CLIMATE ACTION AND THE LOCAL AUTHORITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN (2021). Review commissioned by the Office of the Planning Regulator led by MaREI Centre (as Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher) ENCLUDE: Energy Citizens for Inclusive Decarbonization (H2020, 2021-24). Large European project led by Eidgenoessische Technische Hochschule Zuerich - ETH Zürich, seeking to consolidate energy citizenship practices and frameworks to promote inclusive decarbonization pathways (as partner). Dilaw4E: Disseminating Disaster Law for Europe (Jean Monnet 2019-2022). Based at Roma Tre University, Department of Law, under the leadership of Prof. Giulio Bartolini (academic coordinator of the Jean Monnet Project), with UCC, University of Groningen and International Federation of Red Cross (as partner). Imagining2050 (EPA 2018-2021). Led by UCC-Cork, project seeks to Engage, envision, and co-produce pathways for a low carbon and climate resilient Ireland. Focused on consolidation of research capacity in Ireland with regards societal transition, climate mitigation and climate adaptation, combined with deliberative communication and engagement.
