I qualified as a general staff nurse in 1993 and have worked in a number of clinical specialities in England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Australia. I have always had a very keen interest in the area of Palliative Care and consequently I have registered as a PhD candidate here in UCC. My thesis is exploring the experiences of patients with end stage Congestive Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), utilizing a Grounded Theory methodology. I will be submitting my thesis in September 2017. As a nurse educator, I am very interested in the teaching of palliative care and communication skills, both within nursing and from an interdisciplinary perspective. I have been involved in the development of these curricula, to both undergraduate and postgraduate students over the past 12 years.
