Biography

Aoife has worked at the Department of Folklore & Ethnology since November 2021 and previously held lectureships at the International Centre for Music Studies at Newcastle University (UK) and the School of Music & Theatre at UCC. A renowned traditional musician and singer, Aoife's doctoral research focused on the Dingle Wren Tradition & European Carnival Culture. Her research and teaching spans the areas of Calendar Custom, Festival & Carnival, Music and Song & Vernacular Clothing and Craft. Aoife has worked in Arts Administration & Festival Management and was appointed to the Arts Council of Ireland in 2022. She is Co-Director of Cruinniú na bhFliúit International Festival in Baile Mhúirne and a former board member of Ionad Phoenix in Dingle. She is a regular contributor to TV & Radio and is in the process of recording her third solo album. Tá Aoife ag obair le Roinn an Bhéaloidis ó 2022 agus roimis sin chaith sí sealanna ag léachtóireacht in Ionad Idirnáisiúnta an Cheoil ag Ollscoil Newcastle Shasana agus Scoil an Cheoil & na hAmhclannaíochta, Ollscoil Chorcaí. Ceoltóir agus amhránaí traidisiúnta is ea Aoife agus bhí a dhochtúireacht bunaithe ar Thraidisiún an Dreoilín i nDaingean Uí Chúis agus Cultúr Carnabhal san Eorap. Bíonn a chuid taighde is léachtóireachta fairsing, ag gabháil d'Fhéiltí, Carnabhal, Ceol & Amhránaíocht agus Éadaí & Ceirdeanna Dúchasacha. Tá Aoife ag oibriú san airneál Ealaíona agus le féiltí ceoil le blianta agus í mar bhall den gComhairle Ealaíon ó 2022. Comh-Stiúrthóir ar Fhéile Idirnáisiúnta Cruinniú na bhFliúit is ea Aoife agus iar-bhall de bhord Ionad Phoenix i nDaingean Uí Chúis.
