Biography

Audrey DunnGalvin PhD, Reg.Psychol.Ps.S.I. Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor Applied Psychology, University College Cork Programme Director Early Years & Childhood Studies Strategic Lead for Internationalisation & Community Engagement Course Director Reflective Practice for Health Care Professionals Allergy Research Network, Ireland. Dr DunnGalvin’s clinical and research interests are in psychological medicine, primarily in food related chronic disease, specifically food allergy and celiac disease. She is a registered psychologist (PSI, BPS) a biostatistician and a lecturer in the Department of Applied Psychology in UCC, and an honorary research fellow in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, Cork University Hospital. She has a strong track record in research into food allergy, and celiac disease, long-term condition management, applied health care research and patient-focussed quality of life measurement, psycho-educational intervention design, translating research into practice and policy, and statistical predictive modelling (worldwide patent granted for the recent development of a mathematical algorithm), in children, teens, parents, and adults. Dr DunnGalvin is part of the Department of Paediatrics Food Allergy research group in UCC, which has led the international field in the development of qualitative and quantitative examination of the issues of quality of life for food allergic and coeliac children, adults and parents, and the group has established research links with academic units in the US, Canada, Australia, and Singapore and throughout the EuroPrevall consortium. She is a partner and work package leader iFAAM; FP7-KBBE.2012.2.4-03; and a member of the Odense Research Centre of Allergy (ORCA) CBJ/19,. Research Interests

My research interests are focused on children and families. I have published research using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. My research includes : development and validation of quality of life measures children, teens, and families, bio-psycho-social interactions and developmental trajectories, the development and application of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, psychometrics, mathematical models, psycho-neuro-immunology, design and validation of psycho-educational interventions to address anxiety avoidance and/or risk and to enhance or give rise to constructive coping, risk assessment, and collaborative interdisciplinary research. Teaching Activities

I teach across a range of levels/situations at under- to post-graduate level, across Early Years and Childhood Studies EYCS (course director), Applied Psychology (co-ordinator of 6 modules), and Medicine (course director, co-ordinator 1 module), requiring development of a wide repertoire of teaching and assessment approaches, including action research, workshops, small group work, lectures and seminars, spiral and ‘capstone’ methods, for students of differing abilities and class sizes. Both in my role as Programme Director, and as module co-ordinator, I am committed to enhancing the student learning experience and outcomes. I am committed to research-led, and research-informed teaching including that a) all curricula and individual modules include research-based material, and b) that students have opportunities to generate knowledge within both the EYCS and AP programmes. In EYCS, I have strengthened research informed teaching through a) audit/mapping for 3-year programme and b) audit/mapping for new 4-year degree, with attention to the student as active researcher and participant in building knowledge. For both AP and EYCS, I developed a suite of videos and online modules to support research-based learning, with high student engagement. The early learning and care sector has developed exponentially in recent years, with increased state involvement, regulation and investment and policy changes from Dept.Ed & Skills (DES) Professional Award Criteria and Guidelines. A new vision was needed. I set up 3-school 3-member working group to develop an evidence based strategy for a new 4-year EYCS degree with a renewed, responsive, research-led and research based inter-/trans-disciplinary curriculum. , development of the new 4-year degree was designed using a spiral curriculum where students re-visit content throughout their degree, with each encounter increasing in complexity and reinforcing previous le
