Biography

Bernard Long teaches Jurisprudence, Contract Law and Dlí Bunreachtúil at University College Cork School of Law, where he also serves as director of the BCL (Law & Irish) programme. Prior to rejoining the School of Law in 2025, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Artois University in Douai, France.

Bernard completed his PhD at UCC in 2024, examining the theoretical aspects of gambling self-exclusion agreements and devising a normative framework for their operation. Previously, he completed LLM (by research) and BCL (Law & Irish) degrees at the School of Law.

He has had his work published in the Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence and Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics, as well as featured in RTÉ Brainstorm.

Research Interests

Theoretical aspects of gambling regulation, bioethics, AI ethics, contract theory, precommitment.
