Biography

Błażej Kaucz is a researcher specialising in criminology and socio-legal studies. He holds a PhD in Criminology from University College Cork (UCC), Ireland, alongside a dual law degree (encompassing LL.M. and LL.B.) from Wroclaw University, Poland.

Currently contributing to the academic community while working in the UCC Library. A passionate educator and confident presenter, Błażej has taught at the university level, covering diverse topics such as criminological and sociological theory, social control, critical criminology, penology, and the criminal justice system. His research revolves around the interplay between power, social control, and individual agency (with a particular interest in the impact of artificial intelligence and prison studies). He is also interested in exploring the influence of militarisation, professionalisation, and obedience on individuals and societies.

Błażej is the author of the monograph, The Militarisation of Behaviours: Social Control and Surveillance in Poland and Ireland (Palgrave Macmillan/Springer Nature, 2022). He subsequently served as the editor for the volume Polish Contributions to Criminology (Palgrave Macmillan/Springer Nature, 2025). His latest work includes the curated book, Artificial Intelligence and Crime: Curated Literature Overview on AI, Crime, and Counteraction (Palgrave Macmillan/Springer Nature, 2026).
