Biography

Dr. Bridget Carroll (PhD, MSc) is a lecturer in the Department of Food Business and Development and senior researcher with the Centre for Co-operative Studies, UCC. Bridget’s research interests include co-operative development, legislation and regulation and governance. She is a member of the Horizon Europe DICES research team and PI on a GRI-funded research project. Bridget is academic director of the Diploma in Corporate Direction (Food Business) and the Certificate in Co-operative Governance and Professional Development (both aimed at leadership development in agricultural co-operatives). She is Treasurer of the Society for Co-operative Studies in Ireland.

Research Interests

My research to date has focussed on organisational, legislative and regulatory aspects of co-operatives and worker co-operatives. Recent research has explored the role of employee owned business in succession issues that emerge in family businesses and factors in co-operative entrepreneurship. My doctoral research seeks to apply a network governance perspective to co-operative development. I am a member of the CIRIEC International Scientific Network and the Journal of Co-operative Studies Editorial Advisory Board.
