Research Interests

My research interests are centred on advanced nursing practice, women’s health, and healthcare education.

A key area of interest is the development of Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) roles within nursing, particularly in endoscopy services. I am interested in examining Irish nurses’ perceptions of advanced practice roles, exploring factors that influence role development, and investigating barriers and facilitators that impact the expansion of advanced nursing practice. Previous studies have highlighted nurses’ views on advanced practice and identified organisational, professional, and educational challenges that may hinder the progression of this important clinical career pathway.

I also have a strong interest in women’s health, particularly in understanding women’s experiences of menopause from an Irish perspective. Additional areas of interest include gynaecological nursing and the management of conditions such as cervical cancer, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and fertility disorders. I am interested in exploring patient experiences, healthcare delivery, health promotion, and the role of nursing in improving outcomes for women across the lifespan.

Within healthcare education, my interests include curriculum design, assessment development, and the application of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles in nursing and midwifery education. I am particularly interested in developing inclusive educational strategies that enhance student engagement, accessibility, and learning outcomes.

Furthermore, I have a strong interest in interdisciplinary education and multidisciplinary collaboration. I am interested in exploring approaches that foster effective collaboration among healthcare professionals, strengthen interprofessional learning, and ultimately improve patient-centred care and healthcare outcomes.
