Biography

Dr. Celine McInerney is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems, at University College Cork (UCC) where she specialises in corporate finance, investments, capital markets and investment appraisal. Celine is also a Principal Investigator with UCC's Environmental Research Institute. She  holds an M.Litt. in finance and a postgraduate diploma in statistics from Trinity College Dublin. Celine's postgruaduate study in Trinity was financed by the School of Business Scholarship award. Celine is the co-course director on the Masters in Corporate finance with Professor Mark Hutchinson. The course shortlisted for best postgrad business course by GradIreland in 2014. Celine represented UCC on the Cork Chamber of Commerce Financial Services Working Group and is the academic mentor for BSc Finance students on 3rd year work placement modules. Celine completed her PhD thesis titled "Investment Incentives and Valuation fo Power Sector Infrastructure Assets with Increasing Interconenctino, Intermittency and Decarbonisation" in  2014. The PhD thesis was completed under the supervision of Professor Derek Bunn of London Business School and Professor Ciaran Murphy at UCC. Her main research interests are in investment appraisal, investment in renewable energy assets, real options, carbon liabilities, impact of carbon on cost of debt, regulated returns, and cost of capital, community investment in renewables and fossil fuel lock in.  Celine has significant industry experience. Prior to joining University College Cork (UCC) as a finance lecturer in 2009 she spent twelve years working as a corporate finance advisor. Her last position in industry was as Director of Corporate Finance at boutique corporate finance advisor Merrion Capital where she focused on the energy sector. Prior to this she spent three years working for Ireland’s largest private wind farm developer South

Research Interests

Celine's main research interests are in investment appraisal, investment in renewable energy assets, interconnection in power markets, real options, accounting for carbon, regulatory risk in invesments, impact of carbon on cost of debt, regulated returns, and cost of capital in regulated returns. Celine completed her PhD on investment incentives and valuation of power assets under the supervision of Professor Derek Bunn at London Business School and Professor Ciaran Murphy at University College Cork.
