Biography

Cliona Maher is Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) Global Engagement Officer for University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland, where she builds and promotes academic cooperation between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. She is also currently President of the Society for Irish Latin American Studies (SILAS).

Her research interests include climate action and global justice in the LAC region, embedding global citizenship, community engagement, social responsibility, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and internationalisation into higher education. Cliona has also worked as Coordinator of international co-operation at Universidad Veracruzana (UV) and the Veracruz state Government in Mexico for over 25 years, where she was key to the development of international cooperation projects with international organisations engaging in the region.
