Biography

Dr. Conor Cashman's research interests include the nature of Ireland’s financialisation, treatment of personal debt and related processes, Irish housing policy, the Irish welfare state, analysis of regulatory policy and consumer responsibilisation, and neo-institutional theory. Conor's PhD research, funded by the Irish Research Council, examined the nature of risk, responsibility, and power within Ireland’s financial services, focusing on the evolution of consumer protection regulations before, during, and after the financial crisis of 2008.

Research Interests

My research and related projects interests include housing policy, the nature of Ireland’s financialisation, the Irish welfare state, analysis of regulatory policy and consumer responsibilisation, and neo-institutional theory. My research includes qualitative and quantitative analysis of regulatory policy and its effect, particularly in the context of financial regulations and personal debt in Ireland. Recent research projects have included (1) quantitative research methods to understand the current and future housing needs of people living on Ireland’s islands and (2) reviewing educational and research related materials related to science outreach activities and evaluating these through qualitative and quantitative social research analyses.

Teaching Activities

Lecturer in Social Policy Analysis, Politics and Social Policy, Housing and Homelessness, Social Research Methods. This involves development and delivery of lecture and tutorial materials across Government and Political Science, Bachelor of Social Science, Early Years and Childhood Studies, and the Higher Diploma in Social Policy (Online), as well as research supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects. I have also contributed to postgraduate modules on social policy, with a focus on green finance, regulatory policy, sustainability, and financialisation studies.
