Personal profile

Biography

I am a Lecturer in Education specialising in English as an Additional Language (EAL), languages education, plurilingualism, disciplinary literacies and Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). My work examines how learners’ multilingual and digital lifeworlds—particularly their extramural digital practices—can be integrated into effective classroom pedagogies to enhance pluriliteracies, strengthen minoritised languages such as Irish, and support equitable participation in disciplinary learning. I also contribute to research on AI-enhanced teaching and learning, including ethical frameworks for AI in language education and AI-mediated formative assessment in teacher education.

With over a decade of experience as a classroom practitioner and senior leader in challenging urban schools, I remain committed to addressing educational disadvantage and supporting social mobility. I am especially passionate about amplifying minority and intersectional student voices and exploring how inclusive, decolonial, and authenticity-driven pedagogies can reshape language education. My current projects include CLIL PE interventions, demolinguistic analyses of Spanish-speaking communities, research on extramural digital practices in Irish-medium education, and the development of survey instruments to measure learner motivation and AI literacies. I teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and collaborate widely with researchers, practitioners, and school communities to generate research-informed, practice-responsive innovation.
