Biography

Dan O'Connell holds an MRes in Film & Screen Media from University College Cork and is a lecturer in filmmaking in UCC since 2013. With over twenty years of experience as a creative practitioner in design and filmmaking his extensive portfolio of work has garnered many awards and critical acclaim and has developed his international reputation as a filmmaker of short and feature-length films and documentaries. His films have been selected for screening at numerous film festivals both locally and internationally, including Cannes Court Métrage, Chicago Irish Film Festival, Texas Frightmare, Mississippi Fear Fete, Boston Irish Film Festival, Clermont Ferrand Short Film Market, Cork Film Festival, Fastnet Film Festival, Indie Cork Film Festival. A founding member of SUPEREGO (2012), a high-quality video production collective with large multinational clients, which delivers promotional, commercial and event video to a growing online market. Their clients included: Boston Scientific, MTV, VMWare, SECAD, Sinéad O’Connor, Stryker, Cork Opera House, Cork Midsummer Festival, The Circus Factory, NODE Conference, Pieta House, Irish Guide Dogs. Dan was also a founder of the non-profit group egomotion (2006), a leading online filmmaking hub in Cork. The hub has over 500 members and played a crucial role in the development of the independent filmmaking sector in Cork, allowing filmmakers to share knowledge and resources, and participate in each other's projects. Egomotion has also hosted various screenings, workshops and meet-and-greets to promote local filmmaking talent and foster the independent sector in the city and county.
