Biography

Darius Whelan received his BCL Degree from University College Dublin and then completed an LL.M. thesis, also at UCD, on 'The Comparative Method and Law Reform'. He was called to the Bar in 1988 and his Ph.D. was conferred by Trinity College Dublin in 2000 for a thesis on the topic 'Criminal Procedure and Mental Health'. His research interests include Mental Health Law, Employment Law and Internet Regulation. He is Director of UCC’s LLB programme. Darius is co-founder of UCC's IT Law Clinic, a board member of Sample Studios and a member of Creative Commons. He is currently President of the Irish Mental Health Lawyers Association, the members of which represent persons admitted to approved centres under the Mental Health Act 2001.
