David Nyaluke

Dr David Nyaluke is the University College Cork (UCC) Education for Sustainable Development officer. Based at the UCC’s Centre for the Integration of Research in Teaching and Learning David works to support lecturers and students across all disciplines at UCC in engaging with and integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other sustainability dimensions into curricular and co-curricular programs

Before joining UCC David worked as the UCD-Proudly Made in Africa Fellow in Business and Development where he led research and taught on Doing Business in and with Africa and Sustainable Development across UCD (Lochlann Quinn School of Business and Smurfit Graduate Business School) and 15 other business schools and departments of business in universities, colleges and institutes of technology in Ireland.

A native of Tanzania where he began his university studies at the University of Dar es Salaam, and did master’s level studies in the Netherlands, Italy and Hungary, David completed a PhD in political economy and development studies at Dublin City University in 2013. His doctoral thesis investigated challenges and trajectories of socio-economic development transformation of African states from independence into the 21st Century.

David has broad research and teaching interest in political and economic development of states and their linkage to local and global sustainability and is published in many journals and contributes regular reviews on political, business and sustainable development issues. His most recent Routledge co-publication is the 2020- Challenging Perceptions of Africa in Schools: Critical Approaches to Global Justice Education.

In  the African (Afro) Irish community David  is a member and former the vice-chairperson of the African Scholars Association of Ireland, (AfSAI), Convener of the Business and Development Study Group at Development Studies Association of Ireland(DSAI) and Co-Coordinator of African Students Association of Ireland(ASAI) and Concern Worldwide- Mandela Global Development Inter-varsity Debate Competition and is the co-chair of Steering Committee for United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent 2015-2024 (UNIDPAD) in Ireland. He serves also in the advisory board of HerGenuity Afrika, an African descent leading women entrepreneurs’ network.
