Biography

Dr Allen has degrees in Pharmacy (B.Pharm, UCC, M.Pharm RCSI) and microneedle vaccine development (PhD, UCC) as well as a special purpose award in Lean Sigma (Blackbelt, MTU). He has previously worked as a post-doctoral researcher as part of SSPC research group examining the impact of excipient variability on oral solid dosage manufacture. Dr Allen has considerable industrial experience working with a number of multinational (bio)pharmaceutical companies both in Ireland and internationally in technical leadership roles. Dr Allen is experienced in drug product manufacture for biopharmaceuticals and product characterization as well as process troubleshooting.

Teaching Activities

I am interested in the teaching of industrial pharmacy and pharmaceutics. In particular, my teaching interests lie in developing the next generation of (bio)pharmaceutical technical leaders in the area of (bio)pharmaceutical manufacturing. As a Lecturer in the iEd Hub, I am particularly interested in developing novel and agile teaching programs and the use of digital technology and simulation to improve learning outcomes for students and reduce time to competency when entering the (bio)pharmaceutical industry.
