Biography

Gaurav Rajauria graduated with a BSc in Biological Sciences in 2004 and a MSc in Biotechnology in 2006 from Agra University, Agra, India. Gaurav then joined the Industrial Research & Development Unit at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi where he worked until August 2008 on ‘Bioprocessing and Bioreactor Design for Biopharmaceutical Anticancer Drug Production’. He subsequently moved to Ireland for pursuing research in Food Technology and Bioanalytical Science at Technological University Dublin and was awarded a PhD for his research in ‘Marine Biomass Valorisation for Nutraceutical and Pharmaceutical Applications’, in February 2013. Following his PhD, Gaurav joined the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences at University College Dublin (UCD) where he worked on several multidisciplinary research projects involving bioactive mining and nutritional intervention studies. In 2020, he joined as a Lecturer in Bioeconomy at Munster Technological University (MTU, Kerry) before moving to University College Cork (UCC) in April 2023 as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Microbiology and the School of Food and Nutritional Science. His multidisciplinary research has yielded numerous high-impact scientific articles and his work has been widely cited in the field (h-index 32). He is listed on World’s Top 2% Scientist Ranking (Highly Cited) over the last 4 consecutive years by Stanford University, USA. He is an editorial board member of Nature’s Scientific Reports and Marine Drugs journals. Gaurav is affiliated with SUSFERM - Centre for Sustainable Fermentation and Bioprocessing Systems for Food and the Bioeconomy at UCC and is a Funded Investigator in the BiOrbic, Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre (https://biorbic.com/).
