Personal profile
Biography
Dr. Gaurav Rajauria is a Senior Lecturer jointly appointed to the School of Microbiology and the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences at University College Cork (UCC). His research focuses on sustainable bioresource valorisation, microbial biomanufacturing, and the discovery of bioactive compounds for applications in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical sectors.
He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Biotechnology from Agra University, India. Dr. Rajauria began his research career at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, where he worked on bioprocessing and bioreactor design for biopharmaceutical anticancer drug production. He later moved to Ireland to pursue a PhD in Food Technology and Bioanalytical Science at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), undertaking research on marine biomass valorisation for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.
Prior to joining UCC, Dr. Rajauria held academic and research positions at University College Dublin (UCD) and Munster Technological University (MTU, Kerry), where he contributed to several multidisciplinary projects on bioactive compound discovery and nutritional intervention studies.
Dr. Rajauria has authored over 100 high-impact publications, edited books, developed novel technologies, and secured more than €15 million in research funding, and his work has been widely cited internationally, as reflected in an h-index of 50 (Feb 2026). He has been ranked among the World’s Top 2% Scientists (Highly Cited) by Stanford University, USA, for five consecutive years. He is an Associate Editor of Microbial Cell Factories and serves on the editorial boards of Food and Bioproducts Processing, Scientific Reports, and Marine Drugs. Dr. Rajauria is also a Funded Investigator with BiOrbic Research Ireland Centre for Bioeconomy, and an elected member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).
