Biography
Dr Gillian Barrett is Programme Co-Director of the Bachelor of Commerce Programme in Cork University Business School (CUBS), University College Cork (UCC), where she lectures in entrepreneurship and management.
Gillian supports several extra-curricular entrepreneurship education initiatives throughout the university. In 2019, Gillian was awarded the UCC President’s Award for her excellence in teaching and in 2024, the College of Business and Law, Cross Campus Engagement Award.
Prior to academia, Gillian worked for fifteen years in industry in a variety of senior management and leadership roles primarily in innovation and technology management.
Research Interests
Gillian’s research interests include innovation management, open innovation, entrepreneurial founders and entrepreneurship education. She has published in leading innovation management journals including Business Strategy & the Environment, International Journal of Innovation Management, Journal of Technology Transfer, R&D Management, and Technovation.
Teaching Activities
Gillian teaches final year undergraduate business students entrepreneurship and project management. She also teaches a university wide (undergraduate and postgraduate) entrepreneurship module entitled "Developing an entrepreneurial mindshift".
