Biography

Hadi Karimikia is a lecturer in Business Information Systems at UCC. Previously, he was working as a Marie Curie post-doctoral researcher at Maynooth University. His previous research was co-funded by European Union and Lero (the Irish Software Research Centre) and focused on smart collaboration and governance in a smart city context. He teaches various courses in information systems field. Hadi’s prior research work examines the governance of a smart city implementation, a multi-level impact of IT professionals’ proactive behaviours on enhancing the effectiveness of IT departments, the negative effects of ICT use on employees’ job outcomes, and the effect of various behaviours and personalities of IS professionals within IT departments.

Research Interests

My research interests span intradisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary contexts, primarily focusing on Information Systems (IS) and digital transformation. Key research areas include IT governance, smart collaboration and governance in smart city initiatives, ethics in the IS context, the effectiveness of IT departments, IS professionals' behaviors and personalities, and the negative implications ("dark side") of technology usage. My work also explores the influence of socioeconomic status (SES) on IS users, including ethical dimensions within digital innovation ecosystems. Also, I conduct research aimed at optimizing hybrid renewable energy systems through advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics, contributing significantly to sustainability goals and policy implications. My methodological approaches combine rigorous quantitative techniques, such as multi-level Structural Equation Modelling and meta-analysis, with qualitative methods, ensuring comprehensive and impactful contributions to theory and practice in Information Systems.

Teaching Activities

My teaching interests span various modules delivered to undergraduate students in their second, third, and final years, as well as to postgraduate students, across Information Systems (IS) and related disciplines. Currently, I teach courses that emphasize the management and governance of business data, advanced database design, business analytics, and systems analysis. Students in my classes gain comprehensive skills in relational and dimensional data modelling, data quality and governance principles, IS ethics, smart city applications and projects, database design and development, data security, business intelligence, and analytics. I consistently create practical learning opportunities by enabling students to use leading software and database applications, including Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, Power BI, and Python, particularly for predictive and prescriptive modeling. My effectiveness in teaching is consistently demonstrated by strong student evaluations, highlighting my commitment to fostering an engaging, supportive, and stimulating educational environment. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I coordinate several undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including Predictive Analytics, Prescriptive Analytics, Database Design and Development (1 & 2), Data and Digital Strategy, Data Management Fundamentals, and Enterprise Data Governance. My coordination involves careful alignment of curriculum content with industry standards and evolving academic practices.
