Biography

Is léachtóir í Hilary i Scoil an Oideachais, Coláiste na hOllscoile Corcaigh. Thosaigh Hilary ag obair mar theagascóir i Scoil an Oideachais sa bhliain 2019, ag díriú ar theagasc na Gaeilge agus socrúchán scoile. Anois, tá ról Hilary dírithe ar shocrúchán scoile mar aon le sealbhú teanga, an fhoghlaim dhigiteach agus oideolaíocht chomhaimseartha. Sular thosaigh Hilary ag obair i gColáiste na hOllscoile Corcaigh, chaith sí deich mbliana ag múineadh na Gaeilge in iar-bhunscoil DEIS. Bhí ról lárnach ag Hilary i mbunú an Aonaid lán-Ghaeilge, Gaelcholáiste Mhic Shuibhne, a osclaíodh i gCnoc na hAoine sa bhliain 2019 le hochtar scoláire. Sa bhliain 2022, bhronn An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) sparánacht taighde ar Hilary chun tabhairt faoi thaighde PhD ar leanúnachas an tumoideachais sa tréimhse iar-phaindéime. Tá a cuid taighde go dtí seo bunaithe ar an aistriú ón mbunscoil go dtí an iar-bhunscoil.

Research Interests

Hilary's research interests include the transition from primary to post-primary education, learner voice, immersion education, specifically late immersion and leadership roles within the sector, language teacher identity and self-awareness, the role of the placement school in Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and peer observation as a tool for school improvement.

Teaching Activities

My teaching interests include language acquisition, learner self-awareness, language and cultural awareness, digital technology in the language classroom, formative assessment and feedback and school leadership. I also work closely with student teachers as placement coordinator, and place great value on the role of the Treoraí and School Placement Tutor. Since commencing full-time at UCC in 2022, I have taught and coordinated a variety of modules across four Initial Teacher Education programmes, focusing primarily on school placement, the teaching of Irish, professionalism, reflective practice, inclusive education and curriculum and assessment.
