Research Interests

My current main research interests include

  • the expansionary roles of pharmacists in community, ambulatory care and integrated care settings,
  • impurity profiling of substances subject to abuse and misuse
  • novel teaching and other pedagogical activities pertaining to the discipline of pharmacy.

Teaching Activities

Main teaching interests

  • medicinal and organic chemistry
  • clinical pharmacy.

I have a particular interest in the synthesis, characterisation and quality control of drugs and medicines used in both human and veterinary medicine, in addition to natural products which are used or can be adapted for use as medicines.

In addition, I have a significant interest in exploring novel pedagogical methods and applying those methods within the classroom.

I am a Teaching and Learning Fellow for the UCC Diploma un Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

I have been a pioneer within the School in terms of the original establishment of the BPharm curriculum in UCC, which commenced in September 2003, in addition to overseeing its transformation to an integrated MPharm programme over several years, commencing in 2014.

I teach and contribute to modules across both the Schools of Pharmacy and Chemistry:

  • BPharm
  • MPharm
  • MSc (Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems)
  • BSc (Chemistry)
  • BSc (Chemistry of Pharmaceutical Compounds)
  • BSc (Chemistry with Forensic Science)

As part of UCC's and the School of Pharmacy's internationalisation strategies, I frequently teach pharmacy students at Future University Egypt (FUE), based in Cairo, Egypt.
