Biography

Dr. John L. Buckley received the B.Eng. degree from the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), Ireland, in 1994, and the M.Eng.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland, in 2004 and 2016. He was with EMC Corporation, Cork, Ireland, from 1994 to 2002 specializing in PCB design and High-Speed Digital Design. He joined the Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork, Ireland in 2005 where he is currently a Senior Researcher. Dr. Buckley leads the Antenna and RF Team’s research activities and has published more than 100 scientific works and reviews for several international journals and conferences in the field of Antennas and Propagation. His research interests include electrically small antenna design, tunable antennas, wearable and implantable antennas, RF front-end design, wireless power transfer, RFIC design for medical implants. Research Interests

Research InterestsElectrically small antenna design, Antenna bandwidth enhancement, Tunable antennas, Wearableand implantable antenna design, Batteryless wireless devices using wireless power transfer,reconfigurable antenna design, RF front-end (RFFE) design, RFIC design, RFID antenna and systemdesign, Wireless systems design, Electromagnetic (EM) Simulation, RF Circuit simulation, Equivalentcircuit modelling, Human body EM modelling and Testing, Antenna and RF Characterization, Digitalsystem design, Embedded and Mixed-Signal Design. Current researchJohn’s is actively working on several research projects for both industrial and academic applicationsranging from DTIF, H2020 and Innovation Partnership projects. These projects include antenna designfor wearable health-monitoring applications, implantable antenna and RF design for medicalapplications, Wireless Power Transfer, RFID antenna and system design, antenna and RFIC wirelessly powered implantable medical devices.
