Biography

John Eakins has been a College Lecturer in the Department of Economics in University College Cork since 2002. Previously he worked as a Research Assistant in the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) in the areas of areas of environmental economics, consumer behaviour and short-term economic forecasting. John's current research interests are in the areas of environmental and energy economics, sports economics and transport economics. He has published in these areas in European Sport Management Quarterly, International Gambling Studies, Transport Policy, Applied Economics and the Economic and Social Review academic journals as well as presenting his research at national and international conferences. He is a principal investigator on two EPA funded research projects. John completed a PhD in April 2013 on Irish household energy expenditures in the School of Economics, University of Surrey, UK and is currently an Associate Member of the Surrey Energy Economics Centre, in the School of Economics, University of Surrey, UK. John currently teaches empirical research methods to undergraduate Arts students as well as advanced microeconomics and econometrics to postgraduate Masters students. John is Co-Chair of the Graduate Studies Committee within the Department of Economics.
