Biography

Dr John (Johnny) Goodwin is a Senior Lecturer in mental health nursing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University College Cork. He is the Programme Director for the undergraduate mental health nursing programme. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, and he sits on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health Dr Goodwin has published over 65 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and has attracted over €1,800,000 in funding. He has a Google Scholar h-index of 26 and an i10-index of 43. He teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the school, and supervises students undertaking both Taught Masters and Masters by Research degrees, and students undertaking PhDs. He sits on various groups and committees, including the Allocations Committee, Undergraduate Committee, and the UCC/Health Service Provider Steering Group. He is a member of both the Institute for Social Science in the 21st Century (ISS21) and Mental Health and Wellbeing research clusters. Dr Goodwin holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosocial Interventions from the University of Limerick, a Diploma in Health Service Management from the Cork College of Commerce, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a BSc in Nursing, A Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, a Masters Degree in Film Studies, and a PhD in nursing from University College Cork. He is also an Associate of the London College of Music. He has been a referee for over 30 research journals, including International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, Psychiatry Research, Qualitative Health Research, BMC Psychiatry, and Studies in Higher Education, peer

Research Interests

Johnny's research interests include media and mental health, mental health help-seeking, young people's mental health, school mental health, mental health stigma, the use of the arts and creativity in mental health, and suicide and self-harm.
