Personal profile

Biography

Since February 2026, I am the Lecturer in International Economic History at University College Cork.

I studied modern history, political science and philosophy at Humboldt University in Berlin, where I also completed my PhD in 2013 dealing with the history of colonial concentration camps in Southern Africa. In 2020, I successfully finished my Habilitation at the University of Rostock studying the 1970s oil crises and the demand for a New International Economic Order. Before coming to Cork, I worked as a lecturer at Rostock and later as principal investigator (project: Neoliberal Globalization or ‘Global Disconnect?’) and guest professor at Freie Universität Berlin.

My research has been funded by a number of scholarships (Gerda Henkel Foundation, SHAFR, etc.) and grants (DFG, Fritz Thyssen Foundation, etc.) and has been published in numerous international journals, edited volumes and two monographs. One of them was awarded the Geisteswissenschaften International prize in 2017.

Specializing in the history of economic crises and the global economic order since World War II, colonialism and decolonization, as well as violence and genocide, I am welcoming proposals from prospective PhD students in any of these fields.
