Justin D. Holmes is Professor of Nanochemistry in the School of Chemistry and a Principal Investigator in the Sustainability Institute at University College Cork (UCC). He is also Deputy Director of the Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research (AMBER) centre, a Research Ireland-funded centre that provides a partnership between leading researchers in materials science and industry. His research focuses on developing chemical methods to synthesise and assemble nanostructured materials for environmental and energy applications. He has >400 peer-reviewed publications in materials science and is a co-founder of the UCC spin-out company Glantreo Ltd. Justin is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.

Materials Research Prof. Holmes' research group explores new materials for environmental and energy applications, addressing key challenges in nanoscale science and sustainability. Current research activities of the group can be split into the following areas:

• Atmospheric Sensors: Developing low-cost sensors to detect atmospheric radicals and other critical atmospheric gases electrically.
• Energy Conversion: Engineering new nanofluidic platforms to convert waste heat to electricity.
• Sustainability: Research in this area primarily focuses on recycling waste plastics through chemical approaches.
