Biography
I am a Professor of Clinical Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork (UCC) and Head of Discipline. I served as Vice Dean of the School from January 2021- May 2026. I bring a wealth of clinical pharmacy experience to my current academic research and teaching roles from the community, hospital, and industry sectors. I have an established and internationally recognised academic career in Clinical Pharmacy Practice with an extensive research profile in the areas of patient access and patient acceptability of medicines to identify patient needs of the future.
I have a continuous and upward trajectory of research funding with a grant capture of over €5 million and a total of 122 high quality peer reviewed publications to date. I am a highly accomplished academic in the areas of learning and teaching both within and outside my discipline and have been instrumental in spearheading the development of interprofessional learning. I have significant leadership experience with a commitment and active role in developing and advancing the discipline and profession of pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy since 2005. Examples of my leadership experience include Principal Investigator on funded studies; Mentoring early career researchers and academics; Vice Dean of School of Pharmacy, successful implementation of the summative UCC OSCE examination since 2021 and successful accreditation of the fully integrated MPharm curriculum by the PSI in 2020.
Additional accomplishments in my career to date include Scholarship award from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1992; President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2018, with a further nomination in 2022 and a student nomination in 2023; Ministerial appointment to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland in 2018; appointed visiting Senior Researcher at the Pharmaceutical Care Research Group, University of Basel, Switzerland (2022). I am committed to a vision for advancing Clinical Pharmacy Practice in research and learning/teaching.

· Irish Medication Safety Network Conference 2023:
Professor Stephen Byrne and I led the organisation of this conference in UCC in November of 2023. This is a strategically important conference as it brings together the key opinion leaders in Hospital Pharmacy. This conference has historically attracted over 150 delegates and we are in contact with the Department of Health to ensure that UCC Alumnus and Tánaiste Micheál Martin will open this meeting on Friday 24th November 2023.
