Biography

Laura qualified as a diagnostic radiographer in 2015 from Ulster University in Northern Ireland. She then pursued her passion in research by beginning a PhD with Ulster University.

During her PhD studies Laura continued her keen interest in clinical practice by working as a diagnostic radiographer in a range of imaging departments. She also assisted in the teaching and practical demonstrations to undergraduate diagnostic radiography students at Ulster University. She was listed as a finalist of the Advancing Healthcare Awards in Northern Ireland in 2017 with her PhD research. Laura was awarded a bursary to attend the United Kingdom Imaging and Oncology Congress in 2017. She has several outputs from research completed during the PhD process and continues to generate further research, satisfying her interest in evidence based practice and her research interests.

Following successful completion of her PhD in 2018 Laura began her role as a radiographer specialising in Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Alliance Medical. In this role she specialised in all aspects of MRI scanning.

Laura is currently a Lecturer in the Discipline of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy in University College Cork. Laura continues to spread her enthusiasm and interest of medical imaging and research, encouraging students to develop technical skills and interests to take forward into their future careers. Laura has completed research in the areas of image interpretation and artificial intelligence. Her recent research investigates the use of checklists in image interpretation on the decision making process. This included the formation of checklists to encourage decision hygiene and aid the interpretation process. Other research interests include eye tracking technology in clinical decision making, methods to improve patient diagnosis and patient centred care.
