Biography

Dr Lyndsey El Amoud is Deputy Director of Adult Continuing Education (ACE) at University College Cork, where she leads the strategic development of flexible, part-time and lifelong learning programmes for adult learners. With extensive experience in widening access and participation, she works to ensure that ACE offers inclusive, responsive and high-quality learning opportunities that support individuals, communities and enterprise.

Lyndsey plays a significant leadership role in shaping lifelong learning policy and practice nationally and internationally. She represents UCC in major national initiatives in lifelong learning and contributes to European collaborations focused on flexible learning pathways, equity, and adult participation in higher education.

She completed her Doctor of Education (Higher Education) at the University of Liverpool, with a thesis examining stakeholders’ perspectives on lifelong learning in Irish higher education. She also holds an MA in International Relations and a BA (Hons) in European Studies with Spanish from University College Cork.

Lyndsey is committed to advancing equitable, flexible and transformative learning pathways that enable adults to engage, re-engage and thrive in higher education.

Research Interests

Lyndsey’s research interests centre on lifelong learning within higher education, with a particular focus on university lifelong learning and the development of inclusive, flexible educational pathways for adults. Her doctoral research adopted a phenomenographic approach to analysing how key stakeholders conceptualise lifelong learning in the Irish higher education context.

She also contributes to international research on widening access and participation, lifelong learning opportunities for marginalised groups, the recognition of prior learning, and the role of microcredentials in meeting diverse learning and workforce needs.

She serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Adult and Continuing Education, Studies in Higher Education, and the European Journal of University Lifelong Learning.
